License Renewals:

You may have received a driver's license renewal notice in the mail. Typically, your driver's license expires on your birthday every five
years. Bring your driver's license renewal notice and another piece of identification when you come into the Southland Registrations office.
Our friendly staff can assist you in renewing your driver's license.

At the time of renewal, you must surrender your current license. A new picture must be taken if you have an older style license. Due to government regulations we can no longer print and issue your new driver's license on site. In lieu of your driver's license, a temporary driver's license ,which is valid for 30 days, will be issued stating that your driver's license is being printed. Unfortunately this temporary license is not valid as identification. Your duplicate driver's license will be mailed to your address in 2-3 weeks.


In some cases such as a renewal of a Class 1 or Class 4 driver's license,
you may be required to submit extra documentation such as a medical examination form or visual referral. This requirement will be listed on your driver's license renewal notice.
